Never-ending Colorful Christmas

I hope you’ve enjoyed yourself as much as I have with the November PaperCard Kit.   I’ve had such fun that I really didn’t want it to end, but December’s just a day away and a whole new kit will be awaiting my crafty ideas.  It seemed appropriate that since I wasn’t finished having fun with November’s kit that I should go ahead and make a ”never-ending” card as my last post for this month.   I’ve often admired these types of cards but never actually made one myself.  I was quite surprised that it wasn’t as difficult as I initally thought it might be.  I went to YouTube and did a search for a ”never ending card” and found quite a few hits.  You may want to watch a couple of different YouTube videos like I did, to find the explanation you find best to follow.  (Note:  the ones from UK use metric measurements.)

The punch-out  accessory sheet had sooo many pieces in it that I wanted to use as many as I could and this card certainly allows you to do just that.  Never-ending cards actually have 4 faces and the remaining 3 faces are shown in the photos below.

I will attempt to list the other tools, stamps, etc. that I used to create this card.  If by some chance, I’ve forgotten to list something and you have a question, please feel free to email me for detail clarification.  judy@paperworksco.com  My finished card size is 6″ x 6″.

Supplies Used:

November PaperCard Kit (White cardstock included in kit was used for the for base of card – I used 4 pieces of white cardstock 3″ x 6″)

Stamps:  2 different sizes of snowflakes and sentiments on tags  – Hero Arts

Punches:  Photo corner (S/U), heart (Marvy), Scallop edge punch (S/U)

Foam dimensionals were used to pop up the following:  Bear, blue tree, ‘Tis the Season, Peace/snowman circle, blue and green snowflake circles positioned on photo corners, Snowflake on Pink striped heart, and the Holiday sign.

    written by Sheena

Hi Everyone! Are you all as happy as me that Friday is finally here? Let the crafting begin in earnest – Christmas is less than a month away after all!

Have you exhausted your November PaperCard Kit making your Christmas cards like the eager beavers I know you all are? Well, I have for you today another card using the kit AND my Jacob and Rudolph stamp from Little Loud Stamps.

    PWCO_20091127

Aren’t they just too cute? In case you are wondering, the “Merry Christmas” is hiding – Merry is on the top tag and Christmas is on the bottom tag that are tucked behind the image panel. Those tags? Straight from the embellishment page included in this month’s kit! How is that for easy peasy? No getting out your beloved Cuttlebug and dies for this one – a couple of quick seconds to punch the tags out of the page and off we go!

I hope you like today’s card and that it inspires you to share more of YOUR Christmas creations with this month’s kit. Thanks for stopping by…see you again soon!

    Card details:

    finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches

Papers and Embellishments (ribbon, tags, chipboard button) from the November PaperCard kit

    UCC#11 – My “Lifesaver” Card

    DSC01894

Great challenge this week Sheena!  The reason I called my card the “Lifesaver” card is because it’s like the candy with the hole in it!  lol  Some of my customers often request such a card, but aren’t sure what to call it, so when they describe it as the type of card with the hole in it, I know precisely what they mean.  One of my favourite things to do with aperture cards is to tie ribbon through the aperture and around the outside of the front of the card.   (I can’t explain why, it’s just something I like to do.)

I keep a little pail for scraps by my desk and often lots of really nice, but  rather small pieces of designer paper wind up in there.  Sometimes I get the urge to rummage through to see what’s in there and make up a batch of 3″ x 3″ cards.  This little tent fold card is one of them.   I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “good things come in small packages”,  well, I’d like to think that “good wishes can come in small cards” too!  Plus, often it’s an easy and quick diversion, and  far less daunting to work on something small for a change.   Do you find that when you’re working with scraps, you’d like for your creation to turn out, but don’t really get too bothered if it doesn’t because, afterall, it was just scraps you were playing with?  Funny, how we play these little mind games with ourselves.  (Or maybe it’s just me?!?)

I will apologize in advance for not knowing the manufacturer of the snow covered tree designer paper that I used.  I obviously cut off the name when I used this paper awhile back, and really haven’t a clue and to think that I’d remember it, well, it is to laugh!!   So, the next time you find yourself in a creative stall mode, try making your own “diminutive delight”.    It’s sure to pick you up and help you get your mojo back on track.

    Supplies Used:

Cardstock – Denim Blue, and Denim Blue bling, silver foil  (all of this was in my scrap pail)

Design Paper – ??????  (it shall remain a mystery)

Other - Pewter tree brad, large oval and small oval punches (S/U),  oval punch (Marvy), dimensional foam tape (to pop small blue oval on silver foil oval),  navy blue organza ribbon and thin silver cord (from my “ribbon” scrap bin – yes, I save ribbon scraps too!  Go ahead and laugh all you want ;) )

Time to toot my horn.. hehe

    Never Bored with Chipboard:)

It has been so much fun working with the November PaperCard kit.  Before this kit, I had never used ready-made chipboard shapes before…I know; so behind the crafting times!   Now I’m addicted….this month’s cards have been so easy to put together with such wonderful product coordination in the kit.  I was thinking of actually stamping for this week’s blog post, but the cute chipboard shapes were calling my name;)   I used the sweet little polar bear on the card with the MME Colorful Christmas Bright Stripes DP…it matches the bear’s scarf!!

    Oh No!!! Frosty’s Been Framed!!!

Hi Everyone!   Yes, Frosty’s been framed, but hopefully he won’t be the only one.  ;)   Usually, I would have posted a card made from the November PaperCard Kit today, but with Peggy’s approval, I am posting a recent project of mine, using mostly the items included in the PaperCard Kits.  (Note:  I did have to purchase more supplies in addition to those in the kit to complete all of these frames.  The only items used in this project but not included in the kit are the picture frame, pearl dew drops and I’ve chosen different ribbon.  Read on to find out why.)

As you may have learned from an earlier post to this blog, Amanda, Peggy and I are participating in a Craft Sale this coming Saturday, November 28th at King’s College in Edmonton.  We did this for the first time last year and had so much fun, that we decided to do it again.  Well, with that in mind, I made 12 of these picture frames to sell at the Craft Sale.  So, the reason I used ribbon other than that in the PaperCard Kit was because I needed a lot of it and I happened to have this ribbon hanging around my craft studio.  The dew drop requires no explanation, if you know me (right Peggy?).  LOL

I just happened to come across these hinged picture frames (each side is 4″ x 8″) one day while shopping and couldn’t resist them.  Once I got them home, the old wheels started turning, churning (and in my case, burning) and I finally came up with a grouping of elements that I was happy with.  This is the end result.  Included in the back of the picture frame is a template for the purchaser to place over their selected photos and trace around  before cutting their photos to fit the mats within the frame.  I’m also including a to/from tag.  (see photo below)

    Supplies used:
November PaperCard Kit (plus additional paper and coordinating elements to complete all 12 frames)
Stamps – Snowmen Melt Your Heart and Warm Winter Wishes – Stampendous, To/From – Printworks
Nesties – Oval scallop, Circle scallop, Rectangle scallop, Create a Flake 2, Stars, Christmas Tree
    Pearl Dew drops
Punches – small snowflake, various small circles, hearts, photo corner, tags
Colorful Christmas ribbons and various other ribbons
    Ink – Versamark
Embossing Powders – white detail, black detail
Here are some more photos of these frames.  I hope they are a hit at the Craft Sale!  Wish us luck as we continue to scramble to complete items for the sale!

    Wow what a week!

I do want to apologize for being MIA for the past little while. It’s always busy at PWCO, but I didnt expect it to be THIS busy lol.

Anyhow, last week, THanks to BANU, we had an awesome sketch #9. THanks to those who participated. if you want to check out the pretty cool cards using Banu’s sketch, make sure to go to the gallery:

    http://www.paperworksco.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=631

This week, I finally had a chance to make a sample and a sketch. Of course it isn’t as nice as BANU’s, but i try! :)

    and here is my sample:

    pwcosss10

sorry for the yucky picture.. I tried a dozen shots, but the camera isnt really cooperating.

Last week, I issued a challenge to make unconventional christmas cards.  Of course I didnt have a chance to make a sample, but in the back of my head, i really wanted to use Mikey and use him to make a christmas card.  I suppose I hit two birds with one stone this week lol

    Materials:

  • Stamps:  Mikey the Monkey from Jungle Jester Collection (PWCO), Happiest of Holidays by SU!
  • paper:  smoothies, merry berry by cosmo cricket, prism paper
  • colors:  Black memento ink, light blue ink, copics
  • accessories:  Classic and scalloped cirlce nesties, brads, white gel pin, foams
  • Notes:  I tried using the freckly stamps’ xmas hats, but they were too big, so I free hand it :)

hope you all like the sketch.. i hope to see your submissions soon!

    have a great sunday!

    UCC11 – Peek-A-Boo I see you!

    Saturday, November 21st, 2009
    written by Sheena

Hi again! Any guesses as to the nature of THIS UCC challenge? If you are guessing APERTURE then you are definitely on the right track! That’s right, this week I am challenging Peggy and anyone else who would like to play along to

Create a card with an opening (aperture) that reveals a detail from the INSIDE of the card.

The idea for this challenge came to me because, I must confess, I have a tendency to horribly neglect the inside of my cards. I become so focused on making the front of the card the feature that the inside tends to be kind of ho-hum. Well, more than ho-hum, usually BLANK except for whatever personal greeting I write on the inside. So, there you have it, the idea for the challenge was born and resulted in the creation of this card:

    PWCO_UCC11_01

So that is the front….and here is the inside!

    PWCO_UCC11_02

Now, before I go into the card details I have to apologize to everyone who takes up this challenge. I have discovered, yet again, that photographing cards with openings is MORE of a challenge than making the card itself. But don’t let the photography issue scare you off – we still want to see what I am sure will be fantastic “peek-a-boo” creations! And maybe someone will have some great photography tips to share as well!

    Sheena’s UCC11 Card details:

    finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches

papers and embellishments from the November PaperCard Kit featuring papers from the My Mind’s Eye Colorful Christmas Collection.

    ink: Memento Tuxedo Black

sentiment stamp from My Sentiments Exactly

tools: Spellbinders Nestabilities Small and Large Petite Ovals

UCC10 makes for a very Colorful Christmas!

Hi Everybody! Hope everyone has been having a lovely weekend so far! What did you think of Peggy’s UCC10 challenge? Let me refresh your memory:

Make a project using non traditional xmas colors,(the wilder the better).  And to top it off, bonus (non existent) points to those who can make a xmas card without using xmas images!)

Was it hard for you to break with tradition? Or, did you, like me, just dip into the November PaperCard kit for some quick inspiration?

    PWCO_UCC10

I have to say, the papers in the kit saved me on this challenge! I grabbed some of the

    • vibrant pink Prism Prismatic cardstock and partnered it with
    • the blue side of the Gumdrops and Sprinkles paper and
    • the pink striped side of the Frosty Pines paper and
    • one of the image mats is actually the dotted pink side of the Mistletoe kisses paper and THEN
    • I grabbed some of my stash of light pink Prism paper for the bottom image mat.

My little snowman’s accessories were coloured to match the papers in the November kit using my Prismacolor pencils. Now TECHNICALLY one of those colours is #989 – Chartreuse. So, maybe Peggy scores a TKO on this challenge seeing as chartreuse IS a shade of green, albeit, not so much a Christmas green. Do we have any impartial judges to pass a ruling?

And did you see the other lovely cards for this challenge that definitely don’t need a ruling?

Wow! Great work ladies! Thanks to everyone who played along! Stay tuned for the next challenge.

    Sheena’s UCC10 card details:

    finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches
